AT WHICH POINT SHOULD WE SAVE THE EARTH?
Saving the Earth seems to be always linked to the environment only, but is it so? It is true that the environment is getting polluted, coupled with the depleting ozone situations. However, deteriorating human morals, children abuse, cruelty to animals, the graying population, the handicaps and many more of such negative situations and problems faced by mankind are all linked to the Earth in one way or the other and all these cause ills to the Earth
People in many countries do not have proper homes; inadequate food; inadequate clothes to wear during the cold seasons and no proper education. In addition, it is painful to see lives lost without fighting due to unavailability of medical assistance or medical assistance arrives too little or too late. Lives are lost just like this. Most of such lives could have been saved if proper and adequate medical assistance is provided.
Animals suffer too and more than not; such sufferings are inflicted by humans. There are animals which are slaughtered not for food but to adorn the selected few or to feed to their perverted desires and hobbies. Animals will never understand why their lives are taken away unnecessarily. They do not have a channel to voice their sufferings and pain. Yet, we make reference to such perverted actions of mankind as “worst than an animal”. Do animals really perform such perverted act of mankind?
The environment is being abused by irresponsible individuals and enterprises through selfish and careless activities such as illegal logging and toxic waste disposal which resulted in global warming and the depletion of the ozone layers, to name a few.
What future will the underprivileged people, the children, the animals and the Earth have, if no one stands up for them while the selfish and privileged ones continue to enjoy the pleasure of life and resources wasting attitude? Would we like to have our children face this type of situation? Do we want to let the animals die for nothing? Would we want the Earth to disintegrate and be destroyed? This is a global situation and it is very serious.
AT WHICH POINT SHOULD WE SAVE THE EARTH? The answer is NOW! And where shall we start? To cultivate a responsible and caring society is futile with the present situation and mindset. We have to start at source – Children. Children, who are the future leaders and pillars of the world, must be educated, cultivated and trained to address the ills of society and bring hope to the society and establishes a more conducive living environment.
Children need to learn to love and protect the Earth by appreciating the environment and caring for animals and to protect these animals to avoid extinction of which will destabilize the eco-balance of the environment. They should understand that color of our skin is not to separate but to denote each other’s uniqueness. Different cultures and languages are not to divide but to showcase each other’s tradition and historical backgrounds.
In realizing the above, transparent and neutral platform where dedicated volunteers and participants can be united to contribute to the success of this noble but challenging endeavor is needed. It should propagate the said endeavor regardless of borders, race, religion and it shall be the voice of the children of the world. Together they will care and fight for the rights of the children.
