Children Orphaned by COVID-19
As of August 2021, reported cases of COVID-19 for Malaysia stands at 1,400,000 cumulative cases. Out of this staggering figure, more than 12,000 lost their battle against this virus. To many of us, this may seem to be another number reported in the news, but have we ever stop and reflect for a moment that these 12,000 left not only grief but an uncertain future, especially for the poor and needy or the ill prepared families.

According to a research by Imperial College London, a heart-wrenching 1.5 million children globally, either lost a parent or custodial grandparent to Covid-19. What about the children that were suddenly made orphaned by the demised of both parents? Have we wondered how will these children get their next meal, let alone the chaotic and puzzled little minds have to endured at such tender age. The kind of psychological baggage these children will carry into their adulthood will definitely change their lives. This is not just a health issue; it concerns rights of children. The rights to be protected, loved and cared for.
Lord willing, VOICE will be able to identify and facilitate a helping hand to lead some of these children out of the dark alleys and tunnels that COVID-19 has put them in, and to journey with them through their difficult time until they can stand on their own and be equipped to help others.
