Indigenous School Project: Kampung Jader
Mandate. This is VOICE’s first project to kick-start its education endeavours mandate i.e. to facilitate and empower children to gain access to proper and quality education, on a level playing field, in accordance to their GOD given talent and interest, regardless of religion or class. VOICE’s Education Endeavours Program covers children from indigenous tribes, children with special needs, and of course under-privileged children.
Empowered2Teach. Facilitated by SUKA Society’s “Empowered2Teach” program to train teachers to teach and coach indigenous children, we initiated our education endeavours by supporting Kampung Jader Indigenous Community Class in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
Indigenous Tribes. It is sad to know that most of these indigenous tribes are remotely located and it is very difficult for the children to gain access to proper pre-schools. Thus, it is not common to find indigenous children who are able to read, write and count. This puts them at a total disadvantage when they get the chance to enter government primary schools. This is evidenced by the fact that approximately 75% of these children do not get to complete their basic education.
MKW-HELPS. VOICE plans to support more of such indigenous pre-schools and monitor such children’s well-being and progress in their respective education journeys in accordance to MKW-HELPS program.
Monthly Food & Supplies Expense. Currently, VOICE is supporting Kampung Jader Indigenous Community Class monthly food and supplies expense, with an intention to expand the support in time to come. This is to ensure the Temiar Tribe children continue to have access to proper education and a better future.
Community Class Teacher. Teacher Haini started the Kampung Jader Community Class after completing SUKA’s “Empowered2Teach” program. This pre-school class has approximately 15 children between the ages of 4 years old to 6 years old. Getting access to Kampung Jader is very difficult and requires a 4X4 vehicle driving through logging trails for three hours. This is the kind of hardship Teacher Haini has to go through each time she gets supplies for the children and class from the nearest available town.
VOICE is encouraged by Teacher Haini’s dedication, passion, courage and determination in ensuring the children of her tribe gets proper education. VOICE is planning to increase and extend its sponsorship with SUKA Society to provide more access to education for the indigenous children, and to promote and encourage more teachers like Teacher Haini to come forward to play their parts for their respective tribes.
